Constant and Repeating Elements/Random or Changing Elements
1974, 04:57 minutes, Colour and B&W, English
A moment from Constant and Repeating Elements/Random or Changing Elements: a conversion piece now re-interpreted visually. Performer one has cigarettes and matches, but because the piece stipulates that the two must stay at least ten feet apart, he ends up throwing a lit cigarette to performer two.
Constant and Repeating Elements/Random or Changing Elements is shown as a split screen, one image running forward and the other in reverse. Occasionally one or both images degenerates briefly, which was common with reel-to-reel portapack tapes of the time. These glitches are used here as painterly effects.
Re-mastered in 2012.
