Culp’s first film installation extends their collage approach into three dimensions, shaping a trilogy of two-sided screens into a Bermuda Triangle of anxiety, stress, and surveillance. 16mm imagery is mined from two dozen found film reels of (primarily) corporate and management training films - from “overcoming resistance to change” to spying on your secretary. Brief vignettes from each film are orchestrated into loops of varying lengths and counterposed, changing their relationship over time, with both sound and picture producing layers of cross- commentary. Culp reflects on these artifacts as a revealing (and terrifying) depiction of work as hell.
