By borrowing from the traditional - if not worn-out - codes of the romantic film, Printed Sunset arouses ambivalent emotions in the viewer. The soundtrack, first, supports the unbearable expectation of an aesthetic delight: slow, purring and played in a loop, it stirs the irrepressible desire to discover the object of contemplation of the two women. The slowness of the image emanates from languor, created by the almost imperceptible movements of the camera. However, the elements of decoration, the choice of clothing of the characters and their neutrality instil from the beginning an inconvenience in this scene which could be idyllic. The wide shot reveals the background, the impersonality of the outfits provides a feeling of de-personalization of the actresses, while the sunset is revealed to be nothing but a printout.
